Spring Poetry

Spring is here, and the weather is wonderful – not too hot and not too cold!

Thank you to Vincent for this beautiful photo of his daffodils, which inspired me to write this lesson.

A traditional poem about spring is by the English poet, William Wordsworth (1770-1850).  He wrote about finding daffodils when he was walking in the countryside.

1  Vocabulary – Using your dictionary
Match each word from the poem with a synonym:

To wander                          To move like a butterfly
Vales                                   A light wind
A crowd                             A multitude
A host                                To walk

To flutter                             A large group
A breeze                             Valleys

          I wandered lonely as a cloud
          That floats on high o’er* vales and hills
          When all at once I saw a crowd
          A host of golden daffodils;
          Beside the lake, beneath the trees
          Fluttering and dancing in the breeze

(O’er = over)
